A Disney classic that I can never get enough of is Beauty and the Beast. I watched it a countless number of times as a little girl. When I was six, my grandmother made me a beautiful yellow gown so I could dress as Belle on Halloween. I was completely obsessed with it and I still am many year later.

The story is about Prince Adam who was cursed to a beast form by Enchantress who saw no love in his arrogant heart for others. The one way he could break the spell was to learn to love another and earn her love in return before the last petal from his enchanted rose fell, which would bloom until his twenty-first birthday. But who could ever learn to love a beast? Ten years later, Maurice, an inventor from a nearby village, becomes lost in the woods and looks for shelter in the Beast's castle, the Beast imprisons him for trespassing. His daughter Belle, a bookworm who dreams of life outside her village, finds him trapped in the castle and offers to switch places. The Beast accepts with a promise she'll remain in the castle forever. In the beginning Belle views him as nothing more than a monster, he views her as difficult and stubborn. But the two soon taste the bitter-sweetness of finding you can change and learning you were wrong.

It is such a beautiful movie and I enjoy it as much now as I did when i was six.

One of my favorite pocketbooks to walk around with is my coach bag. I wore it stupidly not really knowing what it is or how it was made. Researching online, I was amazed with what i saw. I found out how the bags are made and how each and every bag is unique.

More than forty years ago, Coach introduced twelve eloquently simple bag designs with classic, well-balanced proportions. Over the years, they have added a multitude of new shapes, styles and materials, but each collection has the same principles of classic design and American style.
Every Coach product embodies the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. Sizes, shapes, pockets and straps are considered to provide maximum efficiency, comfort and convenience. Seams are double-stitched where reinforcement is required. In the glove-tanned pieces, the inside pockets, handles straps and interior bound edges are all made of the same leather to ensure a consistency of color and texture.
Coach selects only the top ten percent of leathers for their quality, strength, character and grain. In the tanning process the untreated leather is rotated for days in large drums where it is softened and enriched with natural treatments drawn from plant extracts, fats and clear aniline dyes. Like fingerprints, no two patterns are alike. The method of slow curing brings the natural markings to the surface, which makes every Coach product original and unique.

Marilyn Monroe

One of my favorite Hollywood starlets would have to be Marilyn Monroe. She had beauty and talent and was well known for her affair with "Mr. President".

She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Norma Jeane spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages until 1937, when she moved in with family friend Grace McKee Goddard. Unfortunately, when Grace's husband was transferred to the East Coast in 1942, the couple couldn't afford to take 16-year-old Norma Jeane with them. Norma Jeane had two options: return to the orphanage or get married. June 19, 1942 she wed her 21-year-old neighbor Jimmy Dougherty. By all accounts Norma Jeane loved Jimmy, and they were happy together until he joined the Merchant Marines and was sent to the South Pacific in 1944. After Jimmy left, Norma Jeane took a job on the assembly line at the Radio Plane Munitions factory in Burbank, California. Several months later, photographer David Conover saw her while taking pictures of women contributing to the war effort for Yank magazine. He couldn't believe his luck. She was a "photographer's dream." Conover used her for the shoot and then began sending modeling jobs her way. This is basically where her career started. She divorced Jimmy in June of 1946, and signed her first studio contract with Twentieth Century Fox on August 26, 1946. She earned $125 a week. Soon after, Norma Jeane dyed her hair blonde and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe, which was her grandmother's last name. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.

The following movies Marilyn stared in:

1962 Something's Got to Give(never completed)

1961 The Misfits

1960 Let's Make Love

1959 Some Like It Hot

1957 The Prince and the Showgirl

1956 Bus Stop

1955 The Seven Year Itch

1954 River of No Return

1954 There's No Business Like Show Business

1953 How to Marry a Millionaire

1953 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

1953 Niagara

1952 Don't Bother to Knock

1952 We're Not Married!

1952 Clash by Night

1952 Monkey Business

1952 O. Henry's Full House

1951 As Young as You Feel

1951 Hometown Story

1951 Let's Make It Legal

1951 Love Nest

1950 All About Eve

1950 The Asphalt Jungle

1950 Love Happy

1950 The Fireball

1950 Right Cross

1950 A Ticket to Tomahawk

1949 Ladies of the Chorus

1948 Dangerous Years

1948 Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!

1947 The Shocking Miss Pilgrim

Her fame grew over the years, but a tragic event struck during a filming of one of her movies. Before the shooting of Something's Got to Give resumed, she was found dead in her Los Angeles home on the morning of August 5, 1962. She remains one of the 20th century's legendary public figures and archetypal Hollywood movie stars.

New York City

One of my favorite places to be is New York City. The lights, beauty, and sights all make it so worth while. Just recently I was there to see the play " How the Grinch Stole Christmas". It was a while since I was there last and I had forgot what the whole fuss about New York was about. Just looking around I was mesmerized by the sights I saw. Even though Times Square was extremely crowded I was still able to enjoy walking around and seeing the view. Rockefeller Center is my favorite place to visit this time of year. The beautiful tree was lit up with beautiful lights and had an enormous star glowing from the top. A pathway of small trees and angels led you to the tree. People just stopped and stared to look at the beautiful sight in front of them. I also love the window displays many of the major New York City stores take part in. From old fashion to modern, the decorations are magnificent. This truly is such a wonderful place to visit during the holiday season. The sights I saw were truly unforgettable.

Christmas Trees

People often wonder where the custom of having a tree in the home during Christmas time comes from. We will probably never know for sure. But there are several historical clues that point out where this custom came from. Thousands or years ago, there were people who believed that evergreen trees were magical. Even in winter, when all the other trees and greenery were brown and bare, the evergreen stayed strong and green. People saw the evergreen as a symbol of life and as a sure sign that sunshine and spring would soon return. Candles, or the electric lights we use to decorate our trees today, are also an ancient symbol. They represent the light of spring triumphing over the darkness of winter.
In ancient Rome, people decorated their homes and their temples with greenery during a special December feast. It was a happy time. No battles could be fought, the schools were closed, and people everywhere joined in the carnival-like atmosphere and gave each other presents.Legend has it that the tradition was begun by Martin Luther in Germany. He was a monk and church reformer who lived from 1483 to 1546. According to the legend, Luther was returning home one wintry night when he saw the stars twinkling in the sky through the tree branches. Luther was amazed by the sight, and when he arrived home, he was eager to tell his family about it. To help them understand, he went to the woods and cut down a small fir tree. Luther brought it indoors and decorated it with candles, which represented the stars he had seen.
The custom spread in Germany, and from there all over the world. In England, the Christmas tree first appeared when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, who was German. In 1841, Albert set up a Christmas tree at Windsor Castle near London to remind him of his homeland. The Christmas tree custom was brought to the United States by people from England as well as by many German immigrants who came in the 1800's. Whatever its origin, the Christmas tree is a beautiful symbol for everyone who celebrates Christmas.

The Grinch

One of my favorite holiday movies would have to be The Grinch. Whenever I see it is on television, I get very excited and anxious knowing that Christmas is here. Although the movie is a little different from the original book by Dr. Seuss, it still is wonderful.

The Grinch (played by Jim Carey) is mean, smelly and scary and hates Christmas. He lives all alone with his loving dog Max on a mountain. He one day decided to ruin Christmas by dressing as Santa Clause and taking away all the Christmas presents form all the boys and girls. His mind is changed when he meets Cindy Lou Who, a little girl from the town of Whooville. The story is classic and I advice anyone and everyone too see it. It is full of laughter and joy for the holiday season.

Christmas

My favorite time of the year is Christmas time. Decorating the front of the house with lights and putting ornaments on the tree are so enjoyable to me. My family is very large and Italian so the holidays are always eventful.

On Christmas eve my family comes over for dinner and exchanging of gifts. I love the smell of the house when the meal is being prepared. Since my family and i are very Italian, we eat fish. From calamari and clams to cake and pastries, everything is wonderfully delicious. One tradition that never is broken is when my uncle dresses up as Santa. He gives all the kids of the family presents and takes pictures with them. It's quite corny but the fun never stops. On Christmas day my family and I go to my aunt and uncle's house where Italian food is stuffed in your face and every desert possible is present.

I love the holidays because it truly brings family together and the fun never stops.

Enchanted*

Last weekend, I decided to go to the movie theater to see Enchanted. I heard how great it was so i went to see it for myself. To my surprise I though it was quite wonderful. It was based on three Disney fairy tales such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. It was basically a spoof of the fairy tales but Disney created it.

It was about a soon to be princess Giselle who lives in an animated world called Antanasia. She dreams of having true loves kiss and finding her prince. When she did find her prince, prince Edward, they were to be married but his evil mother did not want this to happen. She was sent to a world where there was no such thing as happily ever afters which of course was New York City. The movie then proceeded to be absolutely adorable. The laughter never ceased and it truly was enchanting.

The Notebook

Nicholas Sparks is a very talented author. He wrote many popular books but the one that truly stood out to me was " The Notebook".

The book starts in a nursing home with Duke reading to an older woman, whose memory is slipping from her more and more everyday. Duke ( who is really Noah Calhoun) reads the story of two lovers who meet in the south at a carnival. Allie was 17. A city girl from money, and Noah was a country boy. The two spend the whole summer together but Allie is forced to move and go to college although she was willing to give it up for Noah. Noah writes Allie 365 letters and she never gets them. So he restores the house him and Allie went to one night out of 'labor of love'. Seven years pass and Allie meets and falls in love with a wealthy soldier Lon. When seeing Noah's picture in the paper, Allie is drawn back to him. They spent a few days together and she doesn't want to leave. Allie has to chose between her fiancé and Noah.

This novel has been made to a movie in 2004. It is very popular especially amongst young girls all around the world.

Romeo and Juliet

William Shakespeare wrote many wonderful and brilliant plays during his life. One play that he wrote has always been very special to me, ever since my seventh grade class and I read it it will always be my favorite. From age to age this classic story is as timeless as love itself.

The play is about a young love between Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Their families have a very strong rivalry but are unaware of there families backgrounds when they meet. They fall madly in love but they knew the love could not last. Romeo fled. Juliet had to think of a plan to be with Romeo agian. With the help of a friend, she took a special medication to make her seem dead but she really was not. When the news was recieved to Romeo he thought she really died and planned to kill himself. He went to her resting place and knelt beside her and took the deadly poison that took his life. As he drank it Juliet awakened to see him lying there lifeless. She took a knife and stabbed it through her heart.

This story has been known through out the ages as a tragic love story and very popular all around the world. Many movies have been made and the play has been performed at schools and theatres all around the world.

It is a beautiful play about love and tragedy and i will never forget the story of Juliet and her Romeo.

The Pit and the Pendulum

Edgar Allen Poe is one of my favorite poets of all time. In high school many of my teachers made the class read his short stories and poems. What I learned was that he was a very disturbed man. He lost his wife, who died of tuberculous, and had made suicide attempts. The horror and crime in his writings how dark he viewed life. The one short story written by him that i like most is the Pit and the Pendulum.

The story is about an imprisoned man during the Spanish Inquisition. He is tormented and brought to a dark room where he cannot see how large it is. He figured out that there was a large pit in the middle of the room. When he discovered it, he went close by and smelled a horrible smell. It was the smell of dead bodies of past prisoners who raided the room unaware of the giant pit. He passed out and and was awakened strapped on his back. He soon realizes there is a large blade-like pendulum hanging above him, slowing getting closer to cutting through his chest. He finds a way to escape but the walls of his prison start to move and close in on him, pushing him closer and closer to falling into the pit.

I remember reading the story in class with anticipation and fear wondering what would happen next. It is one of my favorite short stories written by a gifted author.

Dracula

One of my favorite Halloween monsters would have to be the ever so famous Dracula. This character has been in a countless number of movies but is he really just a mystical creature? Little do people know.. he onced lived, not as a blood sucking creature of course, but as a feared, gruesome man.

Vlad the Impaler -Tepes was born in the town of Sighisoara in Transylvaniain 1431 and later ruled the area of Southern Romania known as Wallachia. His father was Vlad Dracul who was a knight in the Order of the Dragon which was a union of central and Eastern European rulers who were a tad worried about the rising Ottoman empire.
The Order of the Dragon's coat of arms was a dragon (the Ottomans) and a cross (Christianity). Vlad Dracul bore this coat of arms on everything, flags, coins, and his seal. It attracted the nickname of "Dracul" meaning Devil in Romanian.
The second son was soon born to Vlad Dracul - that being Vlad II - therefore the name developed an "a" representing the son of Dracul - "DRACULA", the son of the Devil.
The word "tepes" in Romanian means "impaler" and Vlad was so named because of his cruel and gruesome habit of impaling humans and leaving them to rot in the sun as a means of punishing his enemies. This is where the myth that Dracula kills innocent humans comes and leaving people to rot in the sun is similar to the legend that vampires die in sunlight. He was a cruel and terrible ruler. He killed citizens of the town who has done something that wasn't by the "rules".The victim was stuck on a sharp stake usually the width of a big burly man's arm .Vlad was said to especially enjoyed mass executions, where several victims were impaled at once, and their stakes hoisted upright. As they hung suspended above the ground, the weight of their bodies would slowly drag them downwards, causing the sharpened end of the stake to pierce their internal organs causing a slow painful death. In order to better enjoy these mass spectacles, Vlad routinely ordered a banquet table set up in front of his victims, and would enjoy a supper even though the pitiful sights and sounds of the dying were right in front of him . It is estimated that Vlad killed some 20,000 men, women and children - the amount of people he killed varies from anywhere between 20,000 to 500,000. He showed no mercy and often tortured his enemies before killing them.
At the same time that Vlad became notorious for his sadism, he was also respected by his subjects because of his fierce campaigns against the Turks. He was respected as a warrior and a stern ruler who tolerated no crime against his people, and during his reign erected several monasteries. He was a hero that was both worshiped and feared by his people

But maybe there was a bit more to Vlad's murderous bloodthirsty habits than we first thought.

In 1985 an Idaho physician Dr. Thomas McDevitt suggested that he may have suffered from a bizarre allergic reaction to blood. He said that in some allergic reactions to a given substance, sufferers also developed an addiction to that same substance, and if deprived of it they could react in a highly bizarre and deranged manner. Could Vlad of just been throwing a tantrum every time he craved blood? Portraits of Dracula show him with dark circles beneath his eyes, puffy cheeks and a sallow pallid complexion - classic characteristics of some types of allergy victim.

He was killed at battle in 1476 but his body was never found. This is why he became the mystical creature he is known to be today. The novel by Bram Stoker depicted him as a bloodthirsty vampire but who knows... maybe he's still out there waiting for his next victim.

Hocus Pocus

The movie Hocus Pocus begins in a small town in 1693, were a boy named Thackery Binx realises his little sister has fled into the woods, under the control of a witch. Thackery rushes after his sister, Emily, and eventually finds a house where Emily has been captured. Inside the house, 3 ageing evil witches known as the Sanderson sisters, are brewing a potion in a cauldron. Winnie, the oldest sister, highlights that the potion, when drank by a child, has the ability to rejuvenate them and restore their youth. Before the witches can force the potion into Emily, Thackery stops them and starts a brawl with Winnie, and is soon defeated. The sisters then suck the life-force from Emily and their youth is restored, then cast a spell on helpless Thackery that he take the form of a black cat for eternity. Immediately, a mob of angry villagers wielding torches capture the sisters and prepare to hang the trio from a branch of a tree. Winnie's spell book reveals a prophecy that on All Hallows eve a virgin shall light the black flame candle and resurrect them. The sisters are then hanged and Thackery remains a cat, unable to reassure his parents that he has taken the form of a cat.

300 years later a boy named Max decides to enter the house on Halloween with his younger sister Andy and soon to be girlfriend. He decided to light the candle that would bring back the witches but he did not know that would happen. As soon as it was lit the witches appeared and were able to sense children in their home.

The rest of the movie is basically the 3 witches trying to capture Andy so that they can suck the life out of her and be young and beautiful forever. Of course they were defeated and turned to dust. This movie is creepy yet hilarious. I enjoy watching it durning the Halloween season.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

One of my favorite Halloween movies is The Nightmare before Christmas. Every year during the Halloween season I watch this movie. It puts me in the Halloween spirit and has become a tradition.

Jack Skellington is the pumpkin king of Halloween town. It is the same routine every year in Halloween town, on Halloween the monsters come out and perform a real scare. This particular Halloween, Jack is very bored of the idea, he goes off into the woods with his dog Zero after Halloween night. Upon the break of dawn, he discovers a clearing of trees with different doors representing various holidays. The Christmas Tree door attracts his attention and discovers the world of Christmas, Jack is fascinated with this new idea of Christmas that he must absolutely share with the citizens of Halloween town. It winds up that the real Santa Clause is kidnapped by the citizens of Halloween town and Jack wants to take his place. Of course everything goes wrong and did not go the way he planned. In the midst of all of this he falls in love with a girl named Sally.

This is such a creepy yet adorable movie that truly gives a feeling that Halloween is on its way!!

Halloween = O

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. You have the opportunity to dress up as someone you are not for a day. This thrilling holiday has been around for many centuries.
Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.
The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future.

To celebrate this event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities.
During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes( which is why we dress in costumes today) consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each others fortunes. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier in the night, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the winter.
By A.D. 43, the Romans had conquered the Celtic territory. In the course of the four hundred years that they ruled the Celtic lands, two festivals of Roman origin were combined with the traditional Celtic celebration of Samhain.
The first was Feralia, a day in late October when the Romans traditionally celebrated the passing of the dead. The second was a day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple and the incorporation of this celebration into Samhain probably explains the tradition of "bobbing" for apples that is practiced today on Halloween.
By the 800s, the influence of Christianity had spread into Celtic lands. In the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV made November 1 All Saints' Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs. It is widely believed today that the pope was attempting to replace the Celtic festival of the dead with a related, but church-sanctioned holiday. The celebration was also called All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints' Day) and the night before it, the night of Samhain, began to be called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween. Even later, in A.D. 1000, the church would make November 2 All Souls' Day, a day to honor the dead. It was celebrated similarly to Samhain, with big bonfires, parades, and dressing up in costumes as saints, angels, and devils. Together, the three celebrations, the eve of All Saints', All Saints', and All Souls', were called Hallowmas.

Memoir

A memoir is similar to an autobiographical writing. It is shorter and stands for a different meaning. It tries to capture certain highlights or meaningful moments in a person's past. It also includes a contemplation of the meaning of that event at the time of the writing of the memoir.
A memoir does not go into every detail of a person's life, it simply just highlights important key events.
There are many characteristics of a memoir such as:
...Narrative structure, setting, plot development, imagery, conflict, characterization, foreshadowing, flashback, irony and symbolism
... The writer's contemplation of the meaning of these events in retrospect
... A fictional quality even though the story is true
... Higher emotional level
... More personal veiw of the events and their impact
... Therapeutic experience for the author of the memoir, especially when the memoir is of the crisis or survival type of memoir
All of these listed can pertain to a memoir. Even though memoirs are not as commonly used, the memories of a certain event or time in your life willl always live on.

Winter

If anyone were to ask me what my favorite time of the year is, i would choose winter. The cold winter days, sweaters, fireplaces and the anticipation of the holidays is what makes this season special to me.

The winter solstice occurs either December 21st or December 22 nd. This is the longest day of the year. The sun is at its greatest distance away from earth. Every year i look forward for the winter season. Even though most people dislike the winter and love the summer instead, I still enjoy it very much. When winter comes, i have to admit, the little child inside of me comes out. Snowball fights and the Christmas holiday make it so much more exciting. The smell of the winter meals being cooked fill the house with such an enticing aroma. I look forward to the winter season that will soon be approaching. The excitement and anticipation are inevitable as soon as the cold weather comes.

Red roses have appeared throughout history and across many cultures as political and religious symbols. However, it is as the symbol for love that the red rose is most commonly known for.

The red roses is a traditional symbol for love and romance. The modern red rose was introduced to Europe from China in the 1800's. The meanings associated with them can be traced back many centuries, even to some of the earliest societies. The color red is a symbol for life for deep emotion. In Greek and Roman mythology the red rose was associated to the goddess of love. Many early cultures used red roses to decorate marriage ceremonies and they were part of traditional wedding attire. The red rose became known as a symbol for love and fidelity. It continues to be the most popular way to say "I love you" Even though this beautiful flower has been around for centuries, the tradition of exchanging the rose as a gift of love ,still exists.

The Phantom of the Opera

The mystical tale of the musical masked menace is well known among millions of people. The Phantom of the Opera has enchanted many people over the last twenty years and still does to this day. The moving Broadway play has touched many hearts. The love triangle between the young, beautiful opera singer Christine Daae, her childhood sweetheart Vicomte Raoul de Chagny, and the irresistible Phantom of the Opera.
The Phantom was Christine's music mentor. She believes he's the angel of music promised to be sent by her father after he died. He was in fact her music teacher but that soon turned to love. Christine could not resist his voice. She went into a trance every time she heard him. He was disrupted by the Vicomte who was Christine's childhood sweetheart. They reunited and fell in love. The young love that sprouted between Christine and Raoul ,turned the Phantom into a jealous enraged mad man. He wanted nothing but Christine and did not stop until she was his. As the plot thickens the love triangle becomes more complicated. The Phantom went on a killing spree which frightened the young Christine. The Phantom was able to cease her and wanted her to belong to him. The Phantom tricked Christine by giving her two options. He told her if she chooses Raoul he will murder him and if she chooses the Phantom he will set Raoul free. She chose the Phantom to save Raoul from death. The Phantom loved her so much that he let her go.

This tragic tale is one that will always break your heart no matter how many times you have seen it. This is my favorite Broadway play and I hope this show enchants people for another twenty years.

The Twilight Series

The Twilight Series is composed of (so far) three books. Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. The are about a teenage romance between a young girl named Bella Swan and her boyfriend Edward Cullen who is in fact a vampire. The story takes place in the gloomy town of Forks, Washignton. Bella is living with her father for the summer. Since it was only March when she arrived Bella had to finish the last few months of school. It was there that she met Edward Cullen. As you can assume its kind of hard for a human and a vampire to be in a relationship. Her life was constantly at risk and as the news of the new romance spread, unwanted enemies make an entrance into their lives. This fiction series is full of action and has a thrilling plot that intrigues both teens and adults. I love this series because it makes you believe in the mystical creatures that are only depicted in horror films. It's a story of love and devotion and also a fight to live. The author Stephenie Meyer has two more books coming out next year. Breaking Dawn and Midnight sun are the completion of the series.
